Regaib Kandili is observed on the first Friday night of Rajab and is known in Turkey as the opening of the "three months". As the first of the holy nights in the stretch that runs through Rajab and Şaban to Ramadan, it is for many families the first gathering of the year. Falling in midwinter, it is also a natural excuse to meet around a warm table. Mahsun Usta hosts that evening at the historic Yeşilköy Train Station, built in 1871. Opening the Three Months at the Table Regaib heralds the Mirac, Berat and Qadr nights that follow. For families it marks a beginning too: the first of the gatherings that will repeat through the later holy nights and into Ramadan. The mood of the evening is therefore less celebration than conversation and togetherness. A Warm Table for a Winter Evening This night usually falls in the cold months. Wood fire is at the centre of our kitchen: dry-aged ribeye and premium cuts, lamb chops grilled over wood, yaprak kebab and sac kavurma. Lamb tandır, rested for six hours in the earth oven, is the dish best suited to sharing at a crowded table. Mezes such as haydari, spicy ezme and smoked aubergine open the meal; künefe and Antep baklava close it. Service runs until 23:00. A Calm, Alcohol-Free Setting In keeping with the sober spirit of a kandil night, Mahsun Usta is 100% halal and entirely alcohol-free. Our high-ceilinged, partitioned hall offers both large family tables and quieter corners. We hold a 4.6 rating from more than 1367 Google reviews. For the Other Holy Nights Our doors are open for the Mirac, Berat and Mevlid nights later in the year as well, and during Ramadan we serve both iftar and sahur. Which night does Regaib Kandili fall on?
Regaib Kandili is the first Friday night of the month of Rajab in the Hijri calendar — that is, the night linking Thursday to Friday. Because it follows the Hijri calendar, its Gregorian equivalent moves back about eleven days each year and has no fixed date. It is not a public holiday; we are open that evening, service runs until 23:00, and kandil nights get busier after the evening call to prayer. Yeşilköy Mh. Demiryolu Cd.
